Artist Statement

I approach an intuitive practice from recording, observing, and articulating my experiences with nature’s consciousness – finding meaning and wonder in everyday encounters. While considering spiritual, environmental, and sociocultural perspectives, I use research to inform my personal meditations with the land. Vibrant, swirling, and dreamlike sensibilities arise as I engage various disciplines to create immersive experiences that reflect my encounters.

In my fieldwork, I venture outdoors and study present ecologies that awaken imaginative play. I reflect on the composure of decomposition and the thoroughness of symbiosis. As I embrace energy and stillness, the landscape communicates perspective realities while inviting me to embody their natures- their magic. In this process, I am both the journalist and the composer. The messenger and the choreographer.

By co-creating with materiality and ambience, the works manifest imaginative landscapes and shift perspectives through both accident and intentionality. Each medium I work in explores texture, color, layering, and feeling within its own unique ability. In the paintings, it is through a collaboration with the nature of the paint that provokes its aliveness. Video, sound, and performance activate energy and alchemize my documented experiences with transitory space.

Fueled by inter-species empathy and informed by indigenous practices, my passion for understanding and exposing the complex histories of ecological systems deeply inspires my practice. While keeping distance from predictable space and time, my work exists within a coherence unique to one’s own perception and experience of the physical world and of the senses. They invite you to look closely and immerse yourself in the worlds within worlds. To reflect on your oneness with nature– to journey through growth and decay.
